Food & Litter
Kittens require continual access to food or frequent meals 3-4 times a day while they are growing. At Haru Birmans, we feed our pets a mixture of wet and dry food with raw and freeze dried meat as treats. Cats are obligate carnivores and require a diet that is balanced for their nutritional needs.
Cats require continual access to a litter box or appropriate area to relieve themselves. Kittens will leave Haru Birmans knowing how to use a litter box however accidents can happen. At Haru Birmans we primary use Tofu litter. The standard rule of thumb for litter boxes is: number of litter boxes = number of cats + 1 |
Toys & Bedding
Our experience at Haru Birmans is that the favourite toys are always toys that a human uses to facilitate play. Our #1 recommended toy is a wand toy. Other toys that kittens may enjoy are soft balls, crackle balls, springs, strings, electronic cat toys, boxes, and tunnels.
Cats need to scratch to maintain their claws so providing them with appropriate items such as traditional scratch posts or cardboard scratchers is essential. Cats also love to climb so a tall scratch post can serve multiple needs - i.e.: scratching, climbing, napping. Cats enjoy having safe, soft places to nap and will often choose their preferred spot. |
Grooming & Vet Care
Birman cats require weekly grooming with a brush throughout the year and additional grooming at the turn of the season. We have found slicker brushes work well but some brushes may work better depending on your individual cat's fur texture and thickness. We also recommend you clip your cat's claws to prevent accidental scratches.
Haru Birman kittens will go to their new homes desexed, microchipped, and having had their first vaccines. It is recommended you take your new kitten to your vet within 24 hours for a general health check for your peace of mind. Cats will then require yearly or 2-yearly vaccines. |
